Yu-Lik Cheung’s Story

As the body of Christ, we can become the church and reach out to everyone whom God loves, and genuinely care for our colleagues!

My name is Yu Lik and I work in finance. 3 years ago I accepted Jesus and my life radically changed. Like many new believers, I wanted to know God more. I stuffed my schedule with church activities, but I never associated my work with my faith. To me, they were two separate parts of my life. One day, I went to a sharing by a colleague who recovered from cancer. He recalled how the company fellowship had weekly phone calls to pray with him in his toughest hours. I was touched, and decided to join the group to pray for our colleagues, their families and friends who were sick and in need. Many experienced God’s blessings through the prayer phone calls.

In 2018, I had the privilege to attend Alpha Katalyst in Singapore. I met with people from different countries who desired to bring God’s love into their spheres of influence. In Hong Kong, the SPARK Movement also cultivated a network of people with the same vision and passion for the marketplace. Through SPARK, I met with a group of young professionals who see the needs of the marketplace. We came together and formed Aspire Church, a marketplace church for young adults who seek to grow and pursue our life purposes in a community.

Also, in 2018, believers in the finance industry formed a prayer group and started to run Alpha at IFC. Being part of the IFC Alpha team helped me see how different people can serve together as one body to reach out to the marketplace in Central. Regardless of our backgrounds, companies or seniority in the industry, everyone in the team used their gifts to help build an open and friendly platform for our guests to share their stories and explore the meaning of life in an office setting.

We are in our positions for a reason. Most of our colleagues are people whom the pastors of our churches won’t be able to reach. Being good stewards of our resources, networks and expertise for Kingdom work, we are called to bring transformation to our community and city. As the body of Christ, we can become the church and reach out to everyone whom God loves, and genuinely care for our colleagues!
