Terry Hao’s Story
I have become bolder and more confident. It’s all because I’m sure that God is with me.
Hi, my name is Terry. I came to Hong Kong from Guangzhou when I was 18. I have been working at an iBank after graduated from college. Like many mainlanders who come to Hong Kong to study or work, I believed that getting a good job and having a stable life satisfy one’s heart. However, as the time passes, I began to find this lifestyle kind of boring.
One day, my insurance agent told me that he was running a small group and would like to invite me to join. Since I was quite free at that time, I accepted his invitation.
At first, I was only appealed to the Alpha videos because of its beautiful scenes. The mesmerising views of the mountains and hills provided me options for my weekends and holidays’ leisure.
But then my impression towards Alpha started to change. Alpha raises questions that worth thinking thoroughly and deeply, no matter if you are a Christian or not. Being influenced subtly, I started to reflect on those questions and my interest in this faith began to grow.
Alpha’s discussion in faith is pathed progressively. It begins with death, links to the meaning of life, and draws us back to the faith. It helps people like me who rely very much on logical thinking.
Alpha encourages open discussion. I now still think about those questions in my daily life and even sometimes discuss them with my friends. Alpha led me to think about deep questions of life and faith. Although it might not provide a standard answer to every question, the journey of exploration drew me nearer to God day by day. I tried to pray, and then one day, I decided to follow Jesus.
Since I became a Christian, I feel relieved from many problems & questions. I have become bolder and more confident. It’s all because I’m sure that God is with me. I think I’ve become less selfish and been eager to bring positive impacts to others, just like the friend who invited me to Alpha.
